Features
Find Exactly What You’re Looking For
- Datasets: Insight websites let users locate peer-rated datasets, all with government-standard FGDC metadata. Our search tools allow you to explore by geography, keyword, source, ratings, latest additions and more.
- Snapshots: Discover new ways to analyze your data. Layer multiple datasets together and visualize the results as a map, chart, or table. Create a Snapshot, or image of your visualization, to save and share with the world.
- People: It’s easy to search for people you trust. See how your peers rate individuals and their data using rating and comment tools and add to the discussion yourself.
- Library: Create collections organized by topic or geography, and keep track of everything you’ve found and created: datasets, snapshots, people, and collections in your Library.
Visualize Multiple Datasets
- Explore datasets on a map or chart quickly and easily. Need information from multiple sources? With Insight you can layer datasets together and use simple, powerful visualization tools to render exactly what you need.
- Return to a visualization session at any time. And after you’ve finalized a map or chart, take a Snapshot – a saved view of your creation – to work with later or to share with others.
- You can even open a Snapshot you’ve found, improve upon it, and save it as a new Snapshot. The original remains – with metadata intact – and the new Snapshot references your work and all original sources.
Share Your Data and Discoveries
- Generate support for your issues using Insight’s sophisticated GIS data sharing tool. Create visualizations that help you explain an issue or tell a story and broadcast your work using simple tools.
- Transport data easily by exporting to spreadsheets, Google Earth, ESRI shape files, and GeoTIFF raster imagery.
- Distribute updates to wide audiences through RSS syndication.
- Embed Snapshots into blogs.
The Information Commons
- Access a massive data warehouse called “The Information Commons” which pools data from non-profits and government into one integrated database, distributed across many different computing devices. Sharing data in the Commons is seamless between individuals and organizations, offering easy, flexible data integration and reuse.
- The Information Commons contains a vast storehouse of resources and assets in your community: every organization, fire hydrant, event and statistic in one comprehensive information system. You can select from, combine and analyze all that information using Insight.
